The Red Sox overcame a 9th inning disaster yesterday that started when Pedroia wasn’t able to handle a ball hit his way. Though Phil Todt wasn’t a second baseman, his fielding and range was legendary, to the point that his 1926 season still ranks third best all-time in range factor.
While toiling with the last place Red Sox(for six straight seasons!), Todt was routinely atop the American League in fielding. In his final season in the big leagues, he played for the Philadelphia Athletics and had one at bat in the A’s World Series loss against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Unfortunately for the Athletics, Phil Todt isn’t walking through that door and the Red Sox should be poised for a sweep!
